Rd. 11 Motegi
● Takaboshi claims his 3rd win with lights-to-flag
● F3-N: Koizumi makes it back-to-back win to
extend his lead in the standings
The Round 11 was fought on Sunday morning for 20 laps at Twin Ring Motegi as Race 2 of the 5th race event for 2014 Japanese Formula 3 Championship in very hot conditions, completely different from Rd 10 of the previous day. Many were waiting to see if Shota Kiyohara could secure pole in a row but the TODA RACING driver wasn't able to get his rhythm and qualified in 5th as Mitsunori Takaboshi set his 3rd pole position with a time of 1m46.085, a tenth clear of Nobuharu Matsushita (HFDP RACING) and Takamoto Katsuta (PETRONAS TEAM TOM'S), with his team-mate Daiki Sasaki in forth. "Adjustments for my second attack went very well," said the B-MAX Racing Team with NDDP driver.
Rintaro Kubo of TOCHIGI Le Beausset Motorsports topped the times in F3-N class. Hiroshi Koizumi of HANASHIMA RACING placed his car in 2nd position to aim for consecutive wins ahead of Shohei Yuzawa of KCMG.
◎ Takaboshi fends off Matsushita at 1st corner
With 6 more laps and significant temperature rise Rd 11 was expected to be much tougher than Rd 10. As the lights went out Matsushita got the best start of the field and plunged inside of Takaboshi in to the first corner, but the pole-sitter firmly defended. Closely charging Katsuta also challenged the leaders in to turn 3, but only to be rejected. A leading pack of these three and Sasaki that had been formed before the opening lap was completed was maintained for early laps with tensions among them, while a little back there were close battles going on over 5th spot among Kiyohara, Sam MacLeod (a wild card of TODA RACING) and Kenta Yamashita (PETRONAS TEAM TOM'S). Yamashita passed MacLeod into 6th place on lap 8, but his dream for 10 consecutive podium finishes was shattered as he fell short of overtaking Kiyohara.

◎ Matsushita gets back on top in the standings
as Yamashita Settles for 6th
Obviously there was also plenty of close battle for the lead going on, but with any of the leaders being able to take a chance of overtaking once Takaboshi opened up his lead to over 1 second halfway through the race he took control of the leading pack to hang on for victory. Matsushita came home 2nd and got back on top in the standings as Yamashita settled for 6th. Takaboshi moved up to 2nd one point behind and Yamashita dropped to 3rd. With the title battle still too close to call we can expect to see even more thrilling races in the two race events to go.
◎ Koizumi takes the lead at the start of the race and beats Kubo
In F3-N Koizumi took the lead at the start of the race. While Kubo caught up with Koizumi at the hairpin and slipstreamed to briefly get ahead Koizumi took the inside line and outbraked through the 90 degree corner before comfortably pulling away to take 3 consecutive wins and 6th win of 2014. In the closing stages Kubo was under mounting pressure from Tairoku Yamaguchi (TAIROKU EXCEED) but managed to cross the line ahead of the persistent charger. Now with commanding points lead Koizumi must be getting aware of the title.
