●中山雄一6連勝はならず、開幕戦の覇者は勝田貴元！
F3-Nクラスでは高星明誠がポール・トゥ・ウイン

　　前日からの好天は引き続き、気温も高まって穏やかなコンディションになった公式予選。今年からエンジン規定が改まってパワーアップしたこともあり、非公式ながら練習走行ではレコードタイムが1秒以上も短縮されて1分51秒335が記録されていた。
　だが、天候とは裏腹に路面状態は悪化しており、また途中に赤旗中断もあったことから、誰もが本領を発揮することは許されず。それでも今季最初のポールポジションは、１分52秒032をマークしたPETRONAS TEAM TOM'Sの中山雄一が獲得。これにチームメイトの勝田貴元、HFDP RACINGの清原章太、B-MAX ENGINEERINGの千代勝正が続いて、ここまでがレコードタイムを更新することになった。また、F3-NクラスのトップはNDDP RACINGの高星明誠で、総合では6番手に。これにHANASHIMA RACINGの小泉洋史、TOM'S SPIRITのナニン・インドラ-パユーングが続くなど、全12台がグリッドに並んだ。
　気温は17℃、路面温度は33℃にまで上がるコンディションの中、午後3時30分に12周の決勝レースのスタートが切られた。ここで素早く飛び出したのが、2番手につけた勝田。ポールシッターの中山はストール気味になってしまい、１コーナーの進入で勝田にかわされてしまう。一方、このふたりに続いて１コーナーをクリアしたのは、予選5番手だった松下信治。清原と千代をしっかり従える。
　F3-Nクラスでも予選トップの高星が出遅れ、小泉ばかりかインドラ-パユーングにもかわされてしまった。だが、オープニングラップのうちにインドラ-パユーングを抜き去り、その勢いで２周目に突入したばかりの１コーナーで小泉を早々と下すこととなる。
　一方、勝田の先行を許した中山ながら、ぴたりと食らいついて離れず、逆転のチャンスをうかがい続けた。ところが、3周目のスプーンで中山はコースアウトしてしまい、これで約1秒をロスすることとなる。その間に松下が急接近するものの、中山にプレッシャーをかけるまでには至らず。とはいえ、中山と松下が争う間に、勝田は一時２秒半ものリードを奪う。
　何とか後続を振り切った中山が、終盤には勝田との差を再び詰め始めたのに対し、離された松下はタイヤマネージメントに苦しみ、清原の接近を許す。そして10周目の1コーナーでは、ついに清原が前に。同じようにトップ奪還を狙った中山ながら、差が１秒を切った11周目のシケインで縁石にタイヤが乗って、わずかながらも姿勢を乱す。これで首位争いに決着がつき、辛くも逃げ切った勝田が、全日本F3選手権での嬉しい初優勝を飾ることとなった。
　足掛け２年での6連勝がならず、中山は無念の２位。3位の清原は全日本F3での初レースで、いきなり表彰台を得ることに。そして松下、千代、そして最後尾からオープニングラップのうちに6番手に上がった、TODA RACINGの野尻智紀の順でのフィニッシュに。
　総合7位で、F3-Nクラスのデビューウィンを飾ったのは高星。2位には3周目に小泉をかわした、インドラ-パユーングもデビューレースで2位を獲得した。逆に小泉はジャンピングスタートによるドライビングスルーペナルティを受け、DRAGONにかわされてしまったばかりか、9周目のスピンで無念のリタイア。予選でタイヤを傷め、ペースを抑えつつも最後まで走り切ったDRAGONもまた、初F3レースで嬉しい初表彰台を獲得することとなった。
　なお、B-MAX ENGINEERINGの吉田基良はトラブルのために残念ながら出走はならず。また、TEAM NOVA WITH NIPPON IMMの湯澤翔平はF3-Nの3番手争いの最中、3周目にS字でコースアウトを喫し、小泉同様にリタイアとなっている。

Nakayama Misses out on 6th Consecutive Win Katsuta Wins Season-Opener
Takaboshi Wins from Pole in the F3-N class

   It was another warm and sunny day for qualifying at Suzuka. Due to the revised regulation for more powerful engines the practice session marked 1:51.335, which was unofficial but more than one second faster than the record time of the track.
    Although worsening road surface and red flag interruption affected the competitors four broke the record time, with Yuichi Nakayama of PETRONAS TEAM TOM'S setting 1:52.032 to win the pole, followed by his team mate Takamoto Katsuta, Shota Kiyohara of HFDP RACING and Katsumasa Chiyo of B-MAX ENGINEERING. Mitsunori Takaboshi of NDDP RACING topped the F3-N class and placed 6th overall, followed by Hiroshi Koizumi of HANASHIMA RACING and Nanin Indra-Payoong of TOM'S SPIRIT.
    With air temperature of 17 degrees C and road surface temperature of 33 degrees Katsuta made a great start from second at 3:30pm to overtake Nakayama who got off to a slow start as the two team-mates entered the first corner. Nobuharu Matsushita from 5th put his car in the 3rd position at the corner exit with solid leads over Kiyohara and Chiyo.
    Takaboshi's tardy start allowed not only Koizumi but also Indra-Payoong to pass him, but comfortably got ahead of Indra-Payoong by the end of the opening lap and Koizumi in turn 1 on lap 2.
    In an effort to overtake his team mate Nakayama went off the track and wasted about 1 second in the spoon curve on lap 3. Matsushita approached him rapidly but fell short in putting him pressure. In the meantime, Katsuta enjoyed 2.7 secs lead for a while.
    On shaking off the HFDP driver Nakayama started closing in on the preceding car, whereas Matsushita had difficulty with tyre management and eventually allowed Kiyohara to get ahead of him at turn 1 on lap 10. In his effort to regain the lead Nakayama beached the car over curb at chicane on lap 11 when he narrowed the gap to 1 second, allowing Katsuta to hold on to his lead to get his first win in the Japanese F3 championship.
    Nakayama wasn’t able to stretch his winning streak earned in 2012 to 6, settling for 2nd. Kiyohara scored the podium finish in his first appearance in the championship. Next came Matsushita, Chiyo and Tomoki Nojiri of TODA RACING, who started from the tail of the grid and gained 6th by the end of the opening lap.
    Takaboshi won the F3-N class in his debut and finished 7th overall. Indra-Payoong, who passed Koizumi on lap 3, finished 2nd in the class in his debut. Being handed a drive-through penalty for jumping the gun and passed by Dragon Koizumi ended up retiring when he span off on lap 9. Dragon also won the podium finish in his debut in the series by slowing down to save his tyres damaged in the qualifying.
    Motoyoshi Yoshida of B-MAX ENGINEERING did not start due to a mechanical failure. Shohei Yuzawa of TEAM NOVA WITH NIPPON IMM also retired after going off the course in the S-shape turn on lap 3 in battling for the 3rd in the class.
