●第1戦の雪辱を果たし、中山雄一が今季初優勝！
　F3-Nでは高星明誠が盤石の連勝を飾る

　まさに春爛漫の鈴鹿サーキットはスタンドに数多くの観客を迎え、まさに開幕ラウンドに相応しいにぎわいを見せていた。第2戦のグリッド先頭、ポールポジションに並ぶのは2戦連続となるPETRONAS TEAM TOM'Sの中山雄一。チームメイトの勝田貴元とともにフロントロウを独占し、2列目にはHFDP RACINGの松下信治、B-MAX ENGINEERINGの千代勝正が並ぶことに。
　そして、この4人とHFDP RACINGの清原章太を間に挟んで、F3-Nクラスの最上位となる総合6番手にはNDDP RACINGの高星明誠がつけ、背後にはHANASHIMA RACINGの小泉洋史、TOM'S SPIRITのナニン・インドラ-パユーングらが続いていた。
　12台すべてがグリッドに並び、スタートを間近に控えた段階での気温は第１戦と同じ17℃、路面温度はやや低くなって26℃に。だが、周回数は5周増えた17周とあって、よりドライバーにもタイヤにも厳しいレース展開となることは必至だった。
　午前10時23分に切られたスタートでは、中山、勝田のクラッチミートはほぼ同時のタイミング。第1戦では中山に並んだ後、1コーナーにトップで飛び込んでいった勝田ながら、今度はそれが許されず。グリッドの利を活かした中山は、トップのまま1コーナーを駆け抜けていく。一方、3番手の松下は完全に出遅れ、背後に並んだ清原があおりを受ける間に、するするっと前に出たのは千代だった。またF3-Nクラスの高星もスタートダッシュは決して良くはなく、小泉にストレートで並ばれこそしたものの、辛くも1コーナーにはトップで飛び込んでいく。
　オープニングラップを終えた段階での順位は、トップの中山にコンマ6秒差で勝田が続き、千代、清原、松下、そして予選のトラブルで最後尾スタートだったTODA RACINGの野尻智紀が続いて6番手に。やや間隔を置いて高星が通過し、これに続いたのは小泉、インドラ-パユーング、そしてB-MAX ENGINEERINGの吉田基良とDRAGONが、TEAM NOVA WITH NIPPON IMMの湯澤翔平を挟んでいた。この中ですぐにアクションを起こしたのが湯澤で、1コーナーで吉田をかわしていく。その吉田は思うようにペースが上がらず、6周目にDRAGONの先行を許していた。
　F3-Nクラスの2番手争いも、早くも動いた。3周目のストレートでスリップストリームから抜け出したインドラ-パユーングが、1コーナーのアウトから小泉をかわしたのだ。だが、その段階でトップの高星は、ほぼ3秒前方。差を詰めるどころか広がる一方とあって、インドラ-パユーングはポジションキープに徹することとなる。
　その間にも、総合のトップを走る中山は盤石。2周目にファステストラップとなる1分53秒226を記録した後、じわりじわりと勝田を引き離していく。一時は上位陣がそれぞれ単独走行だったのだが、終盤になってひとりバトルモードに持ち込んできたのが千代だった。15周目には勝田との差が1秒を切り、残る3周に逆転の機会をしきりとうかがっていた。が、第1戦のウィナーである勝田も隙を見せることなく、最後までガードを固めて逆転を許さず。
　もちろん、その間にもまったく危なげない走りを見せた中山が、4秒のリードをつけてポール・トゥ・ウィンを達成。今季1勝目をマークした。2位は勝田で、3位の千代は今季初の表彰台へ。その後方を走った清原、松下、野尻の順位はまったく動かなかった。
　F3-Nクラスでは高星が2連勝。ファステストラップも記録し、この週末ポイントフルマークに成功した。2位も2戦連続でインドラ-パユーングで、3位の小泉は今季初表彰台。初完走を果たした湯澤が4位、これにDRAGONが続いた。なお、最終ラップに吉田のマシンから白煙が。完走扱いにはなったものの、チェッカーを受けることはできなかった。

Nakayama Avenges His Defeat in Rd 1
Takaboshi Wins Two Straight Victories in F3-N class

Suzuka Circuit attracted many visitors to its stands for the season opener. The front row of the grid for Round 2 was dominated by PETRONAS TEAM TOM’S, with Yuichi Nakayama as the pole-sitter for the second time in a row, and Takamoto Katsuta sitting next. Behind the leaders came Nobuharu Matsushita of HFDP RACING and Katsumasa Chiyo of B-MAX ENGINEERING in the second row, and  Shota Kiyohara of HFDP RACING. Mitsunori Takaboshi of NDDP RACING took the 6th position, which was the highest in the F3-N class, followed by Hiroshi Koizumi of HANASHIMA RACING and Nanin Indra-Payoong of TOM’S SPIRIT.
When the grid was filled with 12 cars the air temperature was 17 degree C as it was in the previous round and the road temperature was 26 degree C, which was a bit lower. The second round was expected to be tougher for both the drivers and the tyres with 5 more laps to go.
Both the Petronas Team TOM’S drivers engaged clutch at almost the same time as the red signal went off at 10:23am. Taking advantage of his place Nakayama exited the first turn still out in front, not allowing his team mate to pass him again. The 3rd placed Matsushita made a late start locking up the way of Kiyohara right behind him, while Chiyo whizzed past the traffic jam. Despite having been caught by Koizumi on the straight due to his not good start, Takaboshi managed to hold his place into turn 1.
Nakayama completed the opening lap at the front of the field, with Katsuta 6 seconds behind, followed by Chiyo, Kiyohara, Matsushita and Tomoki Nojiri of TODA RACING, who started from the tail of the grid due to a mechanical failure during qualifying. A little further back was Takaboshi, followed by Koizumi, Indra-Payoong, and Motoyoshi Yoshida of B-MAX ENGINEERING and Dragon side-by-side with Shohei Yuzawa of TEAM NOVA WITH NIPPON IMM between them. On going into lap 2 Yuzawa made a move to get ahead of Yoshida in turn 1, and the B-Max driver also ceded his place to Dragon on lap 6 having difficulties keeping pace.
The battle for 2nd place in F3-N class was also seen in an early stage when Indra-Payoong overtook Koizumi in turn 1 from outside as he got out of slip stream generated on the straight on lap 3, but all he could do was hold on to the obtained place because Takaboshi was opening up his lead to more than 3 seconds.
In the meanwhile the pacesetter Nakayama, after setting the fastest lap of 1:53.226 on lap 2, was gradually pulling away from his team mate. Among the top 3 running alone for a while, Chiyo made a move in the closing stages. Whittling the gap with Katsuta to 1 second with 3 laps to go the B-Max driver waited for the chance to overtake, but the winner of the Rd 1 proved himself to retain the 2nd place.
Nakayama dominated the race from start to finish to claim his first victory of the season with 4-second lead over the runner-up. Chiyo picked up his first podium finish of the season. Kiyohara, Matsushita and Nojiri finished in the qualifying order.
In F3-N class Takaboshi got back-to-back wins and earned the highest possible points over this race weekend by setting the fastest lap. Indra-Payoong also placed 2nd in a row. Koizumi got his first podium finish of the season. Yuzawa finished for the first time of his career and placed 4th, followed by Dragon. On the ending lap smoke went out of Yoshida’s car. He was considered to have finished the race although he did not get the chequered flag.
