◎ キャシディがポール・トゥ・ウインでタイトルに王手
　 F3-Nでも小河がポール・トゥ・ウインで12勝目をマーク

　ここまで激しいバトルが繰り広げられてきた全日本F3選手権も、このスポーツランドSUGOでいよいよ最終大会を迎えることとなった。サーキット上空には雲ひとつない爽やかなコンディションの下、10月17日（土）には予選、そして第16戦決勝が行われた。もっとも、そのことによって肌寒くもあった前日までより気温、路面温度とも上昇し、特に予選では展開にも少なからず影響を及ぼしたようだ。

●キャシディがタイトルを引き寄せるPP

小河 諒/TOM'S

　そんな状況下でポールポジションを獲得したのは、PETRONAS TEAM TOM'Sのニック・キャシディだった。2周をウォームアップに充て、最初のアタックで1分13秒888をマークし、1周のクールダウンを挟んだ2回目のアタックでは1分13秒711にまで短縮を果たす。その直後に1分13秒714を出し、1000分の3秒差にまで迫っていたのが、B-Max Racing team with NDDPのルーカス・オルドネス。
　一方、キャシディとタイトルを争い合うチームメイトの山下健太だが、1分14秒072を出して、その段階では2番手だったものの、次の周のレインボーコーナーで縁石に乗ってコースアウト。その時にフロントウイングが脱落してしまったため、ピットに戻らざるを得なかったばかりか、オルドネスに割り込まれる格好に。そして、もうひとりのチャンピオン候補、B-Max Racing team with NDDPの高星明誠は、HFDP RACINGの福住仁嶺に続く5番手となってしまう。6番手はB-Max Racing teamから、前大会に続いてスポット参戦の関口雄飛。ベストタイムは3番手に相当していたが、黄旗提示中に記したものだったため、セカンドベストタイムによって、このポジションに並ぶこととなっていた。
「今回はポールポジションを獲ることが普段以上に大事だと思っていたから、すごくハッピー。チャンピオンシップを争っている山下選手との間に、オルドネス選手が入ってくれたのは、僕にとって歓迎すべきこと。気にせず、自分のレースがしたいですね」とキャシディ。
　F3-Nクラスでは、TOM'Sの小河諒が1分16秒656をマークして、またもトップに。EXEDY RACINGの三浦愛が1分17秒221で続き、3番手はB-Max Racing teamのDRAGONが獲得した。「昨日は調子良くタイムが上がっていく中でクラッシュしてしまいましたが、午後の走行にはチームが間に合わせてくれましたし、今日はいい精神状態で臨めました」と小河。

●オルドネス、山下を抑えてキャシディがトップ守る

　18周で争われる決勝第16戦は、直前に行われたスーパーフォーミュラの予選で赤旗中断が続いたため、10分遅れのスケジュールで進行した。16台のマシンが並んだグリッドは、まだ午後4時前だというのに陽はかなり傾いており、日が短くなったのを感じるようになっていた。
　スタートでひとつでも順位を上げたかった山下だったが、ポールシッターのキャシディは好スタートを決めて1コーナーに先頭で飛び込んでいく。山下のスタートも決して悪くはなかったものの、オルドネスのけん制を受けて前に出られず。それどころか福住にもピタリと背後に着かれた状態で、1コーナーをクリアせざるを得なかった。一方、F3-Nクラスでは得意のスタートを決めた三浦愛が、1コーナー〜2コーナーを小河の横に並んでいくが、抜ききるまでには至らず。3コーナーで完全に振り切った小河は、そのまま逃げていくこととなる。
　オープニングラップを終えた時点で、キャシディのマージンは早くも1秒5に。そのまま逃げ続けていったのに対し、オルドネスと山下の差はコンマ5秒。この時はまだ山下の背後にいた福住と高星ながら、やがて4番手争いが熾烈を極めるようにもなり、後れを取るようにもなる。そして、山下もまた3周目を過ぎたあたりから、オルドネスに離されてしまう。
　10周目を過ぎると、バックマーカーが現れるようになり、トップのキャシディと2番手のオルドネスは難なくかわし続けていたが、影響を受けてしまったのが山下だった。13周目の最終コーナーで行く手を阻まれて失速した隙を、少しずつ近づいていた福住が逃さなかった。ストレートでスリップストリームにつけた後、1コーナーで山下を福住が抜いて3番手に浮上。最終ラップのゴール前で並びかけた山下ながら、前に出るまでには至らず。

●キャシディ独走V、山下4位でタイトル決定は最終戦に

　そんなバトルを尻目に、最後まで独走だったキャシディは、オルドネスに8秒7の差をつけて6勝目をマーク。ファステストラップも記したこともあり、4位でゴールの山下に対し、最終戦を前にして、第17戦のポールポジションポイントも含めると10ポイントもの差をつけることとなった。オルドネスはこれが4回目の表彰台、そして福住は5戦連続で表彰台に立つことに。高星が5位で、TODA RACINGの石川京侍が、予選よりひとつ順位を上げて6位でフィニッシュ。関口はスタートで出遅れ、いったんは8番手まで退いたものの、15周目にHFDP RACINGの高橋翼を抜いて7位でゴールした。
「今週はクルマが走り始めからすごく良くて、絶えず気持ち良く走れました。今日も予選より、決勝の方がいい感じでね。最後までプッシュして走り続けることができました。途中、F3-Nクラスのクルマに引っかかったけれど、大量のギャップがあったから、丁寧に対応することができたと思います。明日はいい形でシーズンを締めくくれたら、いいですね」とキャシディ

●F3-Nでは小河が6連勝で12勝目！

　F3-Nクラスでは小河が早々に三浦愛を振り切ったばかりか、クラスの異なるTAIROKU Hanashima Racingの山口大陸にも食らいついていった。その差は絶えず1秒強で、時には山口のラップタイムを小河が上回ったほど。逆転こそできなかったものの、「ずっと違うクラスのクルマが前にいて、コーナーでは近づいていけるのですが、ダウンフォースが抜けてしまい、全開で走り続けることはできませんでした。でも、そのおかげでタイヤも温存できて終盤にファステストラップを出せたし、明日のレースに向けて、いい発見もありました」と、小河は満足そうだった。
　2位の三浦愛までが、総合優勝のキャシディと同一周回。ラップダウンにはなってしまったものの、DRAGONが15回目の3位を獲得した。そして、FSC MOTORSPORTのギョオム・クニントンとの激しいバトルの末に、CMSの三浦勝が逆転して4位でフィニッシュを飾った。

◎ Cassidy takes another stride towards
　 the championship title with lights-to-flag victory
　 F3-N: Ogawa also picks up 12th win with lights-to-flag

After a series of fierce battles the Japanese Formula 3 Championship has got into the final race weekend at Sportsland SUGO. On Saturday, October 17 the qualifying and the race of Rd 16 were fought in crisp sunny weather with high air and track temperatures, the completely different conditions from the day before would have a great deal of influence on the qualifying results.

● A pole position brings Cassidy a step closer to the title
It was Nick Cassidy who took a pole position for the race. The PETRONAS TEAM TOM'S driver used first two laps for warming up, posting 1m13.888 on the first and 1m13.711 on the second attack with a lap for cooling-down in between. At the same time around Lucas Ordonez of B-Max Racing team with NDDP narrowed the gap to the Kiwi to just three msec, posting 1m.13.714.
The second title lead Kenta Yamashita placed second spot behind his team mate when he posted 1m14.072 but would demote himself behind Ordonez a lap later as he strayed onto the kerb and spun at the Rainbow, forcing him to pit to repair his damaged front wing.
Another title favorite Mitsunori Takaboshi of B-Max Racing team with NDDP settled for fifth place behind Nirei Fukuzumi of HFDP RACING. The six place was secured by Yuhi Sekiguchi, who appeared as a wild card for B-Max Racing team for two consecutive race events. He would have secured third place on the grid but his second best qualifying time was counted as his best time was posted under yellow flags.
"I'm particularly happy because it was more important than ever for me to take a pole position for the Rd 16 race," said Cassidy, "I'm glad to have Lucas between me and Kenta on the grid. I hope to concentrate on my own driving without being bothered from behind."
Once again Ryo Ogawa topped the F3-N class, posting 1m16.656 ahead of Ai Miura of EXEDY RACING and DRAGON of B-Max Racing team.
"I crashed yesterday while the times were improving. I am grateful that the team worked hard and carried out the repair in time for the afternoon sessions. So, I' feeling good today," said the TOM'S driver.

● Cassidy wins Ordonez and Yamashita
The Rd 16 race for 18 laps started 10 minutes late due to a red-flag interruption from the previous Super Formula qualifying. It was only before 4 p.m. when the sun was beginning to go down, reminding us the days have become much shorter than the previous event in August.
Yamashita would have wanted to make at least one ground at the start of the race, but despite a good start, only to see the pole-sitting Cassidy make a better getaway to leap into the first corner in front, and to be rebuffed by Ordonez, even allowing Fukuzumi to close in through the first corner.
In the meanwhile Ai Miura got a strong start in F3-N class as usual, putting her car side by side with Ogawa down the first two bends, but the pole-sitter of the class pulled clear away at turn three, and would escape thereafter.
At the end of the opening lap Cassidy had already built up as much as a 1.5 seconds margin, while the difference between Ordonez and Yamashita was just 5 tenths. Behind them an intensifying battle over fourth position between Fukuzumi and Takaboshi would gradually open the gap to the race leaders. Yamashita also started to lag behind Ordonez on lap three.
With some backmarkers on laps after ten, the lead two successfully avoid them, while Yamashita was held up at the final corner on lap 13, the slowdown that Fukuzumi immediately capitalised to come in his slipstream on the straight and then overtook him to move up to third spot. Although he almost caught up with Fukuzumi just before the chequered flag Yamashita would never regain to the lost ground.

● Title will be decided at the final round as
　 Cassidy wins and Yamashita places fourth
Leading away from pole position Cassidy was never threatened to win Ordonez by 8.7 seconds, his sixth win of the season combined with points he scored for setting the fastest lap and taking another pole position for Rd 17 race put him into the lead in the standings by 10 points as the second title lead Yamashita finished placed fourth.
It was the fourth podium for Ordonez. Fukuzumi celebrated his fifth consecutive podium. Keishi Ishikawa of TODA RACING improved his seventh position on the grid to finish sixth behind Takaboshi. Having dropped to eighth position due to a late start Sekiguchi passed Tsubasa Takahashi of HFDP RACING on lap 15 before taking the chequered flag in seventh position.
"The car has been great from the very beginning this weekend, I always felt comfortable with the car. I got better laps in the race than in the qualifying again today," said Cassidy, "I pushed very hard till the end. I was once caught up behind some F3-N class cars, but I kept cool to handle the situation thanks to the big lead. I hope to wrap up this season with a good result tomorrow."

● F3-N: Ogawa picks up 12 wins from 16 races
　 with sixth consecutive win
In F3-N class not only did he pull away from Ai Miura early on but Ogawa also set about charging on Tairoku Yamaguchi of TAIROKU Hanashima Racing, keeping the gap within a little over a second even with better times on some laps.
"I was always running right behind the car from the different class, so I couldn't fully charge him down the corners due to largely affected downforce," said Ogawa, "However, that instead saved the tyres for closing laps where I set the fastest lap of the race, and I think I found something useful for the race tomorrow." Indeed, he looked quite happy about the feeling he had from the race.
Second place Ai Miura was the last driver not to be lapped by the overall winner Cassidy. DRAGON scored his 15th third place a lap down. Masaru Miura of CMS battled it out with Guillaume Cunnington of FSC MOTORSPORT to snatch the fourth place.
